Dr. Richard Helmer’s Electronic Clothing

University of Melbourne professor, Dr. Richard Helmer develops clothing with electronic functionality. For example, his research projects include: an automatically scoring boxing vest, a diaper with a sensor that detects when it has been soiled, and clothing that monitors one’s vitals signs.

In addition, he has developed a T-shirt with electronic circuits that allows one to air guitar and produce noises in real time. The electronic sensors respond to one’s arm movements.
